comparing light in a Vermeer to white space on the left of the page
spoken script

70% of Vermeer's paintings have light falling from the left. If the painting is reversed, we feel like we're trapped in a corner.
In a similar fashion, when Tschichold put the type block over to the left with the white space on the right, despite it's visual excitement, it was not as comfortable to read as when the type block is on the right with the white space on the left.
If a new line of type begins so near the left edge, our eyes feel like they're bumping up against it.
